The KV-1 57mm was a little-known variant of the formidable Soviet KV-1 heavy tank, modified with a high-velocity 57mm gun for better anti-tank performance. Developed just before the German invasion in 1941, it was an experimental attempt to give the Red Army a more effective weapon against enemy armor. While only a handful were produced, the concept showed the Soviet Union’s willingness to adapt quickly to the evolving demands of the battlefield. The project was soon dropped in favor of heavier armament, but this version remains a fascinating "what-if" from the early, desperate days of the Eastern Front.
