The M7 Priest Kangaroo originated from the need to transport infantry in an armored vehicle capable of keeping pace with tanks. During the later stages of World War II, particularly in the European Theater, Allied forces often required vehicles that could safely ferry troops across hostile terrain. The M7 Priest, with its sturdy chassis and ample interior space, was adapted for this purpose by removing the howitzer and modifying the superstructure to accommodate soldiers. This conversion allowed the vehicle to serve as a protected troop carrier, enhancing the mobility and survivability of infantry units.
