The Black Shirts, formally known as the Camicie Nere, began as a Fascist militia in 1920s Italy and later became the MVSN, a state-recognised paramilitary force. During World War II, these troops were deployed alongside regular army units in various theatres, including North Africa, the Balkans, and the Eastern Front. Typically armed with standard-issue rifles, these squads formed the backbone of Black Shirt formations, often tasked with occupation duties, anti-partisan operations, or supporting frontline engagements. While not always as well-equipped or trained as regular soldiers, their presence was a constant feature of Italy's wartime efforts.
