After night drops scattered units across Normandy, officers and senior NCOs gathered stray troopers, set rally points, and pushed on objectives before dawn; the same calm leadership carried them through Market Garden’s bridge battles and the hard winter at Bastogne. With maps, radios, and plenty of hand signals, these leaders coordinated squads, called in support, and kept momentum when things were chaotic—turning scattered jumps into cohesive strikes that held towns, crossroads, and causeways against the odds.
